- Christine Yared engages actively as an attorney, educator, writer, and speaker to further LGBTQ+ legal, social, and political issues. She also penned the award-winning book, Private Love, Public School – Gay Teacher Under Fire. Christine has actively battled discrimination based on LGBTQ+ identity, gender, race, ethnicity, and against sexual harassment. She has practiced law in federal and state courts, specializing in LGBTQ+ law, employment law, family, and criminal law for over 35 years. Sought after as a speaker and trainer, Christine collaborates with professional associations, nonprofits, businesses, government agencies, and schools to meet the organization’s needs. In leadership roles within various nonprofit organizations, Christine shapes policy and advocacy. This includes her work as past chair of the State Bar of Michigan LGBTQ+ Law Section, past co-chair of the Grand Rapids Chapter of GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network), and past president of the Lesbian, Bisexual, and Gay Community Network of West Michigan (now called Grand Rapids Pride). As an adjunct professor, Christine developed and taught the first LGBTQ+ Law course at Grand Valley State University in the 1990s. She has also taught Constitutional Law, Gender Studies, and Civil Rights History. Christine infuses her professional pursuits with passion and insight. Media outlets have featured her work and seek her expertise on LGBTQ+ legal and social topics. Currently, Christine is crafting her second book, Enlightened Education - Fighting Against Book Banning and Whitewashed Curricula.
