- Mary Volmer is the author of two novels: Crown of Dust (HarperCollins, UK; Soho Press, US) and Reliance, Illinois (Soho Press). Her essays, reviews, and short stories have appeared in various publications, including Mutha Magazine, The Common Politic, Women’s Basketball Magazine, Fiction Writers Review, Historical Novel Society Review, The New Orleans Review, Brevity, and Ploughshares. A former division-one college basketball player, she earned a master’s degree at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, and later earned an MFA in Creative Writing at Saint Mary’s College (CA). She has been awarded a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship, residencies at the Vermont Studio Center and Hedgebrook and was a Distinguished Visiting Writer in Residence at Saint Mary’s College and is the founding director of the Alta Mesa Center for the Arts. www.maryvolmer.com
