Hot Reads for Summer!

"Summertime and the living is easy..."

Summer is on the horizon. Bringing with it long-awaited vacations, fun travel plans and the escape to beautiful, sunny beaches. Whether your goal is to be a “beach bum” when it arrives or simply kick back and catch up on some recreational reading at your local cafe, here are a few titles to inspire, inform and entertain you. Favorite brew optional.

" I just finished Laura Frantz's The Lacemaker. Excellent and entertaining read for Christian historical fiction fans. It's set in Williamsburg, VA before the Revolutionary War. Another great read (read it last summer, rereading again in the coming weeks), for non fiction fans is Switch On Your Brain by Dr. Caroline Leaf."

—Karen Lange (of Write Now Blog)

" I recommend Peter Bowerman's The Well-Fed Writer.  For a non-writing related book, I recommend The Still Point by William Johnston, S.J."

—Steve Sears, Writer

"I enjoyed By the Waters (A Collection of Prayers for Everyday)–by Ellyn Sanna.

The writing is eloquent and the photos are scenic and soothing. This read allows us to look at the connection between quenching our physical and spiritual thirst so that we may live in balance, beauty, and in awareness of our daily blessings. The nice thing too is that it doesn't have chapters so you can approach it in any order you'd like. It's also a great gift to give to a friend or loved one."

And

Creating Affluence--by Deepak Chopra

"I dig Deepak. He's (deep). Dating back to when he originally came out with "Ageless Body, Timeless Mind," I've been fascinated by his work. And you will be too. Though this one is a little more abstract than I'd like, there are still tools and techniques you'll find useful and actionable in developing a prosperous mindset."

—Jennifer Brown Banks (of Pen & Prosper Blog)

"I just finished reading The Kingdom of Speech by Tom Wolfe. Got it because I so loved his From Bauhaus to Our House (which I also recommend, but Speech is the newer book). Wolfe is at once dizzyingly erudite, bitingly insightful, and hilariously funny, until he’s dead serious. But a joy to read — and short, easy, breezy books."

—Cynthia Clampitt, Author & Food Historian

"Annotated version of Bible, The Book of Acts. Tremendously enlightening, and Paul is my favorite, saint and otherwise.

Shakti Gawain, Creative Visualization. A timeless classic.

Abraham-Hicks (Esther and Jerry Hicks), The Vortex.

Meister Eckhart, A Modern Translation."

—Noelle Sterne, Ph.D.  Author & Spiritual Coach

"The Book That Changed My Life

and The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg.
Both are compelling, insightful, and inspiring."

—Deborah Taylor, Retired Librarian
