LL0000A156-book half-LIBRARY OF BOOKS

Though Chicago's weather may not reflect it, spring has sprung.  And there's no better time to embrace the beauty of the season and our senses' awakening, than to celebrate it along with a little poetry.

After all, "Roses are red. Violets are blue."

April is officially designated as National Poetry Month. Established originally in 1996, by the Academy of American Poets.

Its mission is to increase awareness, cultivate appreciation, inspire and educate, as it relates to this art form.

National Poetry Month is being recognized on both local and national levels--in libraries, schools, bookstores, and various venues.

Want to get in on the action?

Here are a few suggestions to explore:

  1. If you're a blogger, consider doing a review of books devoted to poetry on your site.
  2. Participate in or support a "spoken word" event in your area.
  3. Visit your local bookstore and purchase a poetry book for a friend, student, or loved one.
  4. Sponsor a poetry contest on your site and give prizes to selected winners.
  5. Pen a poetic piece for your significant other.
  6. Purchase a book of poetry from Amazon.com and donate it.

The possibilities are endless.
