My name is Cheryl but I prefer my nickname, Butterfly Joi (I will explain in a minute), I am 37 y.o. and live in the South Shore neighborhood.
For as long as I can remember I have always loved to write. It was the only thing that came easy to me and that no one could take away from me. I have a sinful love affair with the written word. I think writing is the most beautiful craft that man possesses and yet one that is horribly taken for granted.
Not to turn this bio into a sob story but my mom passed in January. Though I miss her in a way that even words cannot express, I truly believe that with her passing I have found my voice. A voice that I do not think I would dare to use if she were still alive. In a sense, the daughter she kept protected for so long in a cocoon has become a beautiful butterfly. Joi is my middle name and that is how you come to my nickname. The photo I have attached I happened to come across on the Internet and thought it was a wonderful mix of my love of butterflies and words.
Okay, enough of this, I am getting teary-eyed.)
I am very fortunate to have come across this association. I have been looking for some writing support as well as somewhere to use my voice. I hope that CWA affords me that and that I can be of some use to other members. I look forward to talking with all of you soon.
Best,
- B Joi
My first love is nonfiction. I enjoy writing about the beautiful art of writing as well as the ins and outs of life. I have tried my hand, in the past, at poetry and have found that I am not very fond of it. I also have attempted short stories and though I can get them started, keeping them going is another (no pun intended) story! I will continue to write nonfiction but am still pushing to give birth to that fiction story that will not allow my brain to rest. |
